Sky-Tinted Water was inspired by my time as the Artist-in-Residence at Voyageurs National Park. The piece depicts scenes from the park, including rowing through reedy marshes, gliding through mirror-still waters, and marveling at the shimmering aurora overhead. The piece also quotes old voyageur songs and Ojibwe melodies, which float in and out, haunting the piece throughout. Sky-Tinted Water was premiered on October 4, 2025 by the Bemidji Symphony. The Sacrifice of Prometheus was inspired by my time as the Artist-in-Residence at Great Basin National Park. The piece revolves around the story of the former oldest known, living, non-clonal tree in the world, a ~5,000 year old ancient bristlecone pine named Prometheus. The piece is scored for solo bass oboe (which represents the spirit of Prometheus), full orchestra, and electronics (which consist of musical renderings of biodata from the bristlecone pines themselves. It is the first piece in the US to be performed for solo bass oboe and full orchestra, and is the first piece for orchestra to feature musical renderings of biodata from plants. A version for solo bassoon will also be available soon. Click here to learn more.

Lassen Awakes was inspired by my time as the Artist-in-Residence at Lassen Volcanic National Park. It follows nameless protagonist through an introspective stroll through the forest, leading to an unnerving encounter with hydrothermal features which creates an unsettling juxtaposition between unfathomably powerful tectonic forces and the surrounding beautiful nature. What follows is a violent volcanic eruptive episode, and a reflection on life, destruction, and renewal. Click here to learn more.
