Saguaro National Park protects parts of the Sonoran Desert with thick forests of the whimsically humanoid saguaro (suh-WAH-ro) cactus . Reaching heights of 70 feet and 300 years of age, saguaros are often used as a symbol of the entire West, while in reality very few grow outside of southern Arizona and Mexico.
